Cautious balance as the AI rout and rate pressure outweigh firm data
The cross-asset balance is cautious at -0.4: 5 classes lean negative, 6 sit in the balanced band and none is positive. The relative leaders are Real Estate, Europe Equities and Fixed Income, but each is balanced rather than supportive, with price trends holding up better than the news, which leans negative for all three. The principal risks are the AI-regulation selloff that spread from the Nasdaq to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Europe and crypto, and a strong jobs report plus hawkish Fed officials that put a December hike back in play; Metals (-1.0) and Emerging Markets Equities (-0.9) carry the weakest readings, followed by Japan and Crypto. The widest gaps between the two views are in Metals, where every constituent is in a downtrend while the news nets to roughly zero, in Emerging Markets, where a deep downtrend meets near-balanced news, and in Real Estate, where constructive price behaviour meets negative evidence. Only 2 classes, Japan and Crypto, have both views aligned, and that is where the cautious reading is most firmly grounded.

Themes moving more than one market
AI-regulation selloff spreads across markets
Fears that the Democratic sweep would bring tighter AI and data-center rules sent the Nasdaq into a correction, and the selloff spread from Japan's bear-market fall and the chip crash in Korea and Taiwan to European chipmakers, Singapore, Hong Kong tech and crypto liquidations. It registers as a net headwind in every class it touches, including data-center property and Fixed Income, where haven buying of Treasuries was outweighed by pressure on AI-infrastructure credit.
Jobs beat revives the rate headwind
October payrolls far exceeded forecasts, lifting front-end Treasury yields, the dollar and the odds of a December Fed hike. That supports cyclical U.S. equities through stronger earnings prospects but weighs on Treasuries, rate-sensitive real estate and gold, so good economic news is working against valuations elsewhere.
Oil's war premium drains on Iran peace hopes
The midterm result raised hopes of an end to the Iran war, and Brent posted its steepest weekly fall in years. Cheaper crude is a tailwind for energy importers in Europe and India and for Treasuries through lower inflation expectations, but it is the heaviest single headwind for the energy class.
Hawkish Fed officials keep a December hike in play
After two dissents in favour of a hike at the October meeting, Fed officials Hammack, Barkin and Daly all signalled further tightening this week. The prospect of higher policy rates is a shared headwind for Treasuries, real estate financing costs and growth-sensitive U.S. equities.
Divided government lowers yields and the dollar
Democrats won both chambers of Congress without a filibuster-proof Senate majority, which points to limited fiscal expansion. Treasury yields and the dollar fell on the result, supporting bonds and precious metals, while U.S. cyclicals and import-dependent retailers rallied on the policy outlook.
Weekend Iran escalation adds an unpriced risk
U.S. strikes on Iran, an enforced blockade and a new task force against Iran's land supply routes landed over the weekend, after Friday's close. The escalation threatens to rebuild part of oil's war premium and supports gold's haven role, making Monday's reopening the first test for both energy and metals.
Single-day session detail
The single-day picture is bearish: Friday's selling was broadest in Europe Equities, where every constituent fell for an average move of -1.39%, and nothing advanced in Developed Pacific Equities, Fixed Income or Japan Equities. The clearest single-day opportunity readings came from Emerging Markets Equities (0.8) and Metals (0.4), but both are counter-moves inside medium-term downtrends rather than changes of regime. Single-day risk is highest in Crypto at 1.5, as ETF outflows and forced liquidations followed the tech rout, and the Fixed Income news flow carries elevated event risk of 1.6 after December hike odds swung sharply. Weekend U.S. strikes on Iran and a wider blockade have not yet been priced, making Monday's reopening the first test for oil, gold and oil-importing markets.
