Customer prepayments lifted quarterly free cash flow to $5.41B, more than GE Vernova generated in the whole of the prior fiscal year
Equipment revenue rose 41.8% while services rose 5.2%, so equipment's share of revenue climbed 7.0 points to 66.0%. The filing points to the Prolec GE transformer business, consolidated early in the year, higher switchgear and transformer volume, and more gas turbine deliveries, partly offset by fewer onshore wind deliveries.
Revenue rose 26.8% to $12.6B, while gross profit rose 63.8% to $3.11B, lifting gross margin 5.55 points to 24.6%. Operating income reached $1,394 million against $366 million a year earlier, an 11.0% operating margin. The filing attributes the gain mainly to Gas Power pricing and volume, "partially offset by the impact of inflation", and to Electrification's acquisition, volume and productivity.
SG&A rose 10.9% to $1.35B, well below revenue growth of 26.8%, and took 10.7% of revenue; R&D rose 15.5% to $358 million, 2.8% of revenue. Diluted shares fell to 268 million from 275 million as the company repurchased stock, so diluted earnings per share of $4.81 compare with $1.64 a year earlier.
